Choral Tutorial Videos

Choral Tutorial videos

Many years ago, I started creating rehearsal cassettes for singers in my various choirs. That evolved into making rehearsal CDs where I sang the voice parts with all of the words. It took hours to record and make copies for the entire chorus. When I premiered my first major choral work with orchestra, I could use the orchestral playback to create mp3 files which I then started emailing to people. This then evolved into making rehearsal videos which we uploaded an distributed on Dropbox and the like. Then it occurred to me to make all of these available on YouTube. So I created a YouTube channel which is specifically for people who want to practice their voice parts in preparation for their regularly scheduled choral rehearsals.

I like to think of it as a sort of “chin up bar” or “exercise bike” for serious choral singers, who want to hone their skills and learn notes between rehearsals. I’ve found that these videos, when used regularly, help my singers get up to speed with a new work much more quickly. So in addition to orchestrated rehearsal videos for all of my orchestrated choral works, I’ve also prepared a complete set of choral tutorial videos for the following works:

Haendel: Messiah

J. S. Bach: St. Matthew Passion

J. S. Bach: Magnificat

Brahms: A German Requiem

Verdi: Requiem

Verdi: Stabat Mater

Verdi: Te Deum

Puccini: Messa di gloria
